However, if the smoke detector were monitored, even if the residents were away from the home or were asleep when the fire occurred, the monitored smoke detector would alert the monitoring center which would have taken the requisite steps to address the situation including contacting the homeowner as well as the fire department. In addition, with the monitoring center making these important life saving calls for the residents, precious time is saved which can allow individuals to escape a possibly life threatening situation.
